Signs and Symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome

Computer Vision Syndrome

What Causes Computer Vision Syndrome?

Computer vision syndrome is caused by focusing on digital screens for long periods of time. This is because your eyes need to work harder than usual as they fight through glare, contrast, blue light exposure, and a lack of sharpness on screens.

Common Signs

  • Blurry or double vision
  • Eye irritation
  • Eye fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Itching, red, or teary eyes
  • Eye strain and discomfort

These symptoms tend to let up when you get away from your electronic devices. If not, your symptoms may be due to a different vision problem. An eye doctor on our team can help determine what is causing your eyestrain.

Treatment for Computer Vision

  • Blinking often while you’re in front of a screen to keep your eyes lubricated
  • Using glare and blue light filters
  • Increasing the size of your text
  • Follow the 20/20/20 rule (Every 20 minutes look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds)
  • Position your screen slightly below eye level

An eye doctor on our team can help you develop an individualized treatment plan. He can also provide prescription medication to increase your tear production and provide additional recommendations.
